Step-by-Step Guide:

Measure the Diameter of Your Candle Jar:
For example, if you’re using the Small Vogue jar, the internal diameter is 72mm. Example image below. 

Consult the Burn Chart:

With your measurement in hand, refer to the left-hand column of the LCS Cotton Wick Burn Chart labeled “Vessel Diameter.”
Find the 5mm bracket that includes your measurement. For a 72mm diameter, you might start with LCS 70 or LCS 75.

Understand Wick Sizes:

The chart helps you understand how wick names correlate with their burn diameters. For instance, LCS 50 burns to a diameter of 50-55mm, while LCS 70 burns 70-75mm. Wick sizes range from LCS 35 to 100, with a turbo wick burning up to 120mm wide.

Double Wick Candles:
If you’re making a double wick candle, halve the diameter measurement. For a 96mm jar, divide by 2 to get 48mm. Then, refer back to the burn chart to find the appropriate wick size.

Special Considerations for Tapered Jars:

For jars like the Renee candle jar (a stemless wine glass), use the top measurement. As the candle burns down, the glass heats up, aiding wax melting. Be cautious not to over-wick.

Container Material Effects:

Different materials affect the burn. Ceramic jars don’t get as hot, so you might need to wick up. Glass and tin get hotter, so you might need to wick down.

Fragrance Oil Percentage:

The percentage of fragrance oil also impacts wick performance. A good starting point is 6-7% of high-quality fragrance oil for a harmonious candle.
