Make a Large Vogue Candle With Us

Not to brag but we are kind of great at making candles (with experienced expert candle technicians, we do have some bragging rights). Lucky for you though, we don’t like to gatekeep our top tips to creating the best candles. We love to see our client’s achieving greatness by creating flawless candles for their customers. That’s why we’re bringing you the easy-to-follow steps to create a Large Vogue candle that is larger than life and full of heart.

Leading by Example

Our techniques aren’t plucked from thin air, we test, trial, and adapt our candle-making processes based on the wax we use, the fragrance oil we’re mixing and the jars we’ve selected. Each of our candles are crafted with the optimum approach each time.

Vogue candle and wax

You can adapt our process to suit the waxes, fragrance, and jars to your taste, but the fundamentals will remain the same. It will just be a case of changing measurements for your jar, fragrance loads for your oils, and adapting the mixing and pouring temperatures based on the wax you’re using. To keep things nice and simple though, we’ll be using S100 Pure Soy wax, a stunningly smooth 100% soy wax that is vegan-friendly and sustainable. And, of course, using our coveted Large Vogue jar to create a masterpiece of a candle.

Now you know the deal, let’s get cracking!

Step 1:

First step is all about prep. Get yourself ready and your workspace clear and clean and you’re on the path to successful candle-making already. Once you’re settled into your working area, you can move onto prepping your candle jar.

Wicking Vogue candle

For a Large Vogue candle you’ll be wanting to use the LCS90 Cotton Wick. We’ve calculated that this is the ideal pick for wicking this vast jar, resulting in a perfectly even burn. Using a stickum, you can fasten the wick to the base of your jar and then simply keep it held in place by propping it in the centre of the jar with a wick centring tool.

Prepped Vogue jar

You’ve completed the first stage of candle-making (we told you we’d make it easy-to-follow).

Step 2:

Breaking down the maths is simpler than you might think. As promised, we’re bringing you the basics to get the ball rolling with your candle making, so here are the details for this jar and wax:

  • A Large Vogue is, surprisingly, large! The total mass it can hold is 370g. Therefore, you need to balance the wax and the fragrance to fill this vessel.
  • Lucky for you, we’ve got it sorted. To have a beautifully balanced scent to your candle we recommend between 8-10% fragrance load. In this case, we’re opting for a strong oil and therefore are going for 8%.
  • Fragrance for this Vogue candle, therefore, will be 30g and the wax will be 340g.
  • Alternatively, for a 10% fragrance load you can use 37g fragrance oil and 333g of wax.

Wax and fragrance oil

Don’t panic, the numbers breakdown is over! Now it’s time for the fun part.

Step 3:

Using a handy LCS Wax Melter you can melt down your wax and get it prepped for blending. For S100 Pure Soy, get your wax melted and down to 60 degrees then you can add in your fragrance oil.

Blending wax and oil

Pour the two liquids together and mix them for 2 minutes for an even blend and well-distributed scent throughout your wax.

Step 4:

Almost there! You’ve got your jar at the ready and your mixture prepped, now it’s time to finalise your Large Vogue candle.

Pouring wax

Allow your wax mixture to cool to 50 degrees then get pouring. Use an easy-pouring jug to transfer your wax mixture into the vessel. Ensure you are saturating the wick as your pour. The you’re ready to leave your candle to set.

Step 5:

Once your candle has set and solidified, you can trim your wick down. Finally, you’ll want to let your candle cure before burning. All waxes and fragrance blends cure times vary from between 48-72 hours. If you feel the scent is becoming stronger the longer you leave it, you might want to cure it for the extended time. It’s totally up to you and what you feel is best for your candle creation.
