Luminary Home's Candle Journey #heytherebrightspark

Hope you are all well and you have had a lovely Summer! I am back again with another Makers and Moments; I absolutely love hearing about everyone’s stories and writing up these blogs!

I have been speaking to Ashley Surrey, the founder of a vegan brand, Luminary Home. A unique and sustainable yet luxury brand that was created with one goal in mind… to delight their customers with products that live up to their promises. Ashley stated that this may sound simple, but if you have ever bought a home fragrance product and have been disappointed then you will know that this is not the case.

Before Luminary Home, Ashley and her team, were the customers, not the manufacturers and Ashley said, ‘if you were being kind, you would say we were ‘active consumers’, if you were being honest, you would probably say that we had a bit of a problem and should stop buying candles, and melts, and diffusers and all things home fragrance!'. Luminary Homes’ philosophy is that home fragrance does not have to be beige, but it does have to 'stink'. They respect their customers’ individuality and aim to provide them with products that are both functional and something that they are proud to have on display in their homes.

Luminary Home was chosen for Ashley’s business name because it means ‘lit from within or enlightened’ and her brand identifies with both definitions. This also created their #heytherebrightspark hashtag and that is the reason why they call their customers ‘bright sparks’ and of course, the home came in to play for home fragrance. With their logo and branding, Luminary Home wanted to be the craft beer of the candle world and wanted their branding to be as different as they are and that is why they commission their products with specific illustrations to help them stand out.

                                            

Luminary Homes’ target audience ‘bright spark’ knows what they like when it comes to home fragrance and they understand the difference between a £1 supermarket candle and an artisan hand poured candle, but they expect performance from their purchase(s).  

The ‘Bright Spark’ audience love the small vogues and large vogues in a wide range of colours. They are also, huge lovers of wax melts! 

Luminary Home aim to provide a variety of scents, as they are customers as well as manufacturers, therefore, they look for scents that spark something in them, whether that is a memory, or and instant association like luxury, relaxation, or energising. Performance in testing is a big thing for Luminary Home and they have picked out some amazing scents in the bottle that just did not exceed their quality of criteria in testing.

Luminary Home use our products repeatedly and could not express enough how many products they loved! Ashley said that from a manufacturing perspective there are so many quality products that make such a big difference, but the customer does not see them as such, however, one product that their customers do see, is our range of glassware. ‘It is just great!’ Ashley said, top quality, choice of styles and colours but she fears that she needs to get in their quick because of lot of other people love it too! 

Ashley’s words of advice to all of you newbies out there wanting to start your candle journeys, start with really good quality ingredients (you will find them at LLCS, Ashley said, and we agree with her on that!). Also, do not get disheartened when something that works 99% of the time will not work with a jar, wax, or fragrance. It happens to us all!
